Attorneys in Tennessee are required to earn a minimum of fifteen (15) continuing legal education credit
hours by December 31 per calendar year. A maximum of eight (8) hours of credit per year in a distance
learning format such as web-based "online" CLE may be applied to the annual 15 credit hour requirement.
Three (3) of the 15 credit hours must deal with ethics and professionalism (E&P credits). A total of 15
hours of credit (including distance learning credits) in excess of the minimum annual requirement may be
carried forward for credit in the succeeding calendar year, but only for the succeeding calendar year. Ethics
and professionalism credits in excess of the annual requirement will, to a maximum of three (3) hours, be
carried forward to the subsequent year's E&P requirement, but will not be used to satisfy any deficiency in
the twelve (12) hour general requirement. Dual credit carried forward to the subsequent year may satisfy
either E&P or General credit. Go to
